Well, reunion was so much fun! Technically it wasn't my reunion year, as I'm '05, but they still invited back all classes because they were holding a symposium on women and power....and it was wonderful! Lot of really inspiring women came...among them a BBC anchor, Shirley Ann Jackson (RPI's president), founders of philanthropic organizations, CEOs, a senator (first EW alum to be elected to such a position!), and many others. They all had wonderful insight, as many had traveled the globe. There was a panel of questions, and the 2.5 hours flew by! My mother is class of '76, so I spent much of the day hanging out with her and her friends, and it was great to hear their stories. Many of their daughters have also attended and I knew some of them, so that was fun as well.
Emma's also working on an "oral archiving" process, where they've been recording videos of alums reminiscing...so Mom and I did one together. We decided to talk about all the mischief we got into and pranks we pulled....the best story (which I had never heard until yesterday!) was that my mom and her friends used to take tea bags and put them in toasters...it would smell like pot and drive the houseparents MAD! I nearly died laughing. Ohhhh, my mother....hahaha... There were also a few girls from my class, and even though we hadn't been close friends while there, we still had a great time hanging out and exchanging stories. There's just an inherent connection between Emma girls, and it's so wonderful. We met lots of older alumni (from the '50s and such) and some of them were real livewires! So all in all a very fun weekend. I even took my parents down to Brown's last night and we had a ton of fun! Even ran into some people I knew and chatted for a while.
So anyway, I have a big pinup tomorrow for studio and still have a lot of work to do...need to figure out materials (no chip allowed) and laser cut in the morning....not to mention Modernity readings that very well may end up falling to the wayside....but such is life. Ciao!
